NEWS RELEASE High school performers to compete at marching festivalBaldwin City, Kan. — More than 1,200 area high school musicians will compete at the 12th annual Class 1-5A marching festival at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Baker University’s Liston Stadium. The event will feature 16 marching bands, six drum lines and two color guards. Participating high schools are Burlingame, Bonner Springs, Cass Midway, Perry-Lecompton, Highland Park, Spring Hill, Baldwin, Ottawa, Paola, Osage City, Tonganoxie, Atchison, Lansing, Louisburg, Topeka West and De Soto. The Jeremy Frye Memorial Championship Trophy will be presented to the total points champion band at the awards ceremony at approximately 8:30 p.m. The judges for the competition are Rosa Adams-Bussard, director of bands, Olathe Northwest High School; John Kieffer, former coordinator of instrumental music for the Olathe Public Schools and director of the Olathe South High School band; Patrick McCardy, former assistant director of bands, Lawrence High School; Brad Shores, director of bands at Haven High School; and Jerry Stone, former director of bands at Maize High School. ### Baker University is committed to assuring student learning, and developing confident, competent and responsible contributors to society. |
