NEWS RELEASE Baker University’s annual gala raises $174,115 for scholarshipsBaldwin City, Kan. — Baker University’s annual gala and auction, “Live from the Orange Carpet,” on Nov. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo., raised $174,115 for the annual scholarship fund. For the second consecutive year, Panda Restaurant Group owners Andrew Cherng and Peggy Cherng issued a challenge gift at the gala, resulting in an $86,000 contribution from the Baker alumni. Andrew is a member of the Class of 1970 and Peggy is a member of the Class of 1968. The event included the presentation of videos showcasing Baker students excelling inside and outside the classroom. “The generous gift from the Cherng family highlighted another successful gala that helps benefit our fine students,” Baker President Pat Long said. “Our alumni and other friends of the university look forward to the annual event that has seen an increase in financial support every year. The fund-raiser impacts the lives of hundreds of our students.” In the past three years, the gala and auction has generated $534,617 for student scholarships. ### |
