Baker students place high at national conference

Baldwin City, Kan. — Baker University mass media students placed in the top 10 in two categories over the weekend at the Associated Collegiate Press Conference in Orlando, Fla., featuring a national competition for universities and colleges of all sizes.Baker-0964

Current students Meagan Thomas, Florissant, Colo., and Xiomara Nunez, Dallas, along with alumna Genevieve Des Marteau, Lawrence, placed fifth in the multimedia story of the year contest for their coverage of the Baldwin City schools consolidation.

The Baker Orange's website,, placed ninth in Best of Show award.

Two other multimedia projects received honorable mentions. Current senior Marlee Johnson and alumnae Mary Loveland and Chelsea Twietmeyer partnered on one of the projects. Johnson and alumna Reina Murphy partnered on the second project to receive honorable mention at the national conference.
