Students honored by Order of Omega
Baldwin City, Kan. — Two Baker University students were recently honored by the Order of Omega, a leadership honor society that recognizes greek members of junior and senior status who have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Stacy Yowell, Overland Park, Kan., and Milan Piva, Parsons, Kan., of Baker’s Upsilon Tau Chapter, have been awarded a $500 scholarship by the Order of Omega for their achievements.
Yowell is actively involved in Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, her campus community and as the president of Baker’s Upsilon Tau chapter of Order of Omega. She previously was a campus relations chair, academic achievement chair and vice president of membership. Her campus involvement includes serving as a parMentor, a special university host to alumni and guests; a Baker Ambassador working with the university ministry; and a student director for orientation leaders. Through her sorority, she has worked on numerous highway cleanups and has helped raise awareness about breast cancer on Baker’s campus. Yowell has worked with local alumnae to support the Breast Cancer Young Survivor’s Coalition Guild and has done mission work related to hurricane-damaged areas. She is on Baker’s dean’s list and is a member of the women’s golf team at Baker.
Piva serves as the Upsilon Tau chapter community service chair and is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She has organized highway cleanups, an Adopt-a-Family project at Christmas, and was in charge of promoting Breast Cancer Awareness on the Baker campus and Baldwin City community for her sorority. She has served as the chapter historian and as a vice president in charge of the program council officers. In 2009, she was chosen as the Greek New Member of the Year during the Greek Awards. She serves as an admission assistant for the university, is a student athletic trainer and a member of parMentors. She is on Baker’s dean’s list.
