Baldwin City, Kan. — The Office of Student Life & u-LEAD Student Leadership Program have announced that Matt Wiest has been selected as the March Student Leader of the Month.Matt-Wiest2

He was nominated by Cynthia Appl, professor of German and chair of the Department of the Humanities. She had the following to say about Wiest, a senior secondary education major from Overland Park, Kan.:

“Matt served on the English search committee and read through volumes of candidate applications. He was dedicated to the process and played a great leadership role by recruiting student participation in the campus visits of our candidates and gathering feedback from his fellow students. His contributions to our discussions were always constructive and insightful. Matt is also president of Alpha Mu Gamma (foreign language honor society). He organized help from fellow officers for international desserts in the cafeteria during National Foreign Language Week during a very busy time in March. During March, Matt also traveled to New Orleans with a group of English students who presented papers at the Sigma Tau Delta annual conference. This just shows how Matt has been able to juggle his exceptional academic work with his many extracurricular leadership roles.”
