Broadway at Baker, Music Theatre for Young People to present ‘Hot Mikado’
Baldwin City, Kan. — Broadway at Baker and Music Theatre for Young People will present “Hot Mikado” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Rice Auditorium on the Baldwin City campus. Cary Danielson Pandzik will direct the musical theater production.
Featuring more than 50 students from area high schools and middle schools, the Broadway at Baker production highlights East meeting West head-on in a hilarious 1940s-style update of a Gilbert and Sullivan favorite. With a mix of styles and influences, classics such as “A Wand’ring Minstrel I” and “Three Little Maids” are transmuted into show-stopping blues, swing, hot gospel numbers and scorching torch songs. Find out what happens when the clean lines and color of Japanese design combine with the big band sights and sounds of popular American song and dance.
“Hot Mikado” is an excellent showcase for a culturally diverse cast. The music is stacked with stellar vocal arrangements, pulsing rhythm, and music that makes the audience want to dance.
Admission is $8 for adults, and $5 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets are available at the door or by calling (785) 594-8478.
