Students receive national honors from Society of Professional Journalists

Baldwin City, Kan. — Two Baker University students – Tera Lyons, Strasburg, Colo., and Xiomara Nunez, Dallas — were recently recognized as national Mark of Excellence winners in the small school division by the Society of Professional Journalists.Teraforweb2

Lyons received top honors for general news photography (homecoming royalty) and sports photography (football vs. Graceland). Her homecoming royalty photo is featured on the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence Awards page. Lyons (photo at right) and Nunez (photo at right, bottom) partnered for the top honor in online sports reporting (roller derby). Baker's Orange staff was recognized in online feature reporting for its culture shock package.

Other national finalists from Baker were the Baker Orange staff for online news reporting (Election 2012) and Shawn Deegan for sports writing (feature on men's and women's soccer coach Nate Houser).Nunezforweb2
