University to host marching festival

Baldwin City, Kan. — More than 1,000 area high school musicians will compete on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the 15th annual Baker University Class 1-5A Marching Festival at Liston Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.Baker-U-Marching-Festival-11forweb

Twelve marching bands, two color guards and three drum lines are scheduled to perform, beginning at 3:15 p.m. The Jeremy Frye memorial championship trophy will be presented to the total points champion band of the marching festival at approximately 8:45 p.m.

The judges for the festival are Sid Showalter, former director of bands at Hutchinson (Kan.) High School; Eric Stambaugh, director of bands at Buhler (Kan.) High School; Jerry Stone, former director of bands at Maize (Kan.) High School; and Jan Verboom, director of bands at Valley Center (Kan.) High School.

3:15 p.m.: Sabetha Blue Jay Marching Band
3:30 p.m.: Prairie View High Marching Buffaloes
3:45 p.m.: Cass Midway Viking Marching Band
4 p.m.: Mid-Buchanan Marching Dragons
4:15 p.m.: Perry-Lecompton Marching Band
4:30 p.m.: Ottawa High Marching Cyclone Band
4:45 p.m.: Afternoon session awards
6 p.m.: Baldwin High Marching Bulldog Band
6:15 p.m.: Spring Hill Marching Bronco Band
6:30 p.m.: De Soto Wildcat Drum Line
6:40 p.m.: Tonganoxie Chieftain Drum Line
6:50 p.m.: Louisburg Wildcat Drum Line
7 p.m.: De Soto Dazzlers Color Guard
7:10 p.m.: Louisburg High Jazzy Cats Color Guard
7:30 p.m.: Atchison High Marching Redmen
7:45 p.m.: Tonganoxie High Marching Chieftains
8 p.m.: Louisburg High Marching Wildcat Band
8:15 p.m.: De Soto High Marching Wildcats
