Percussionist recital set for Saturday

Baldwin City, Kan. — Mai Tadokoro, an active percussionist and educator in the Kansas City area, will perform at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at McKibbin Recital Hall on Baker University's Baldwin City campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

A native of Nara, Japan, Tadokoro moved to the United States in 2002 and is an active percussionist and educator in the Kansas City area. She is a founding member of the Ad Astra Percussion quartet. She also has played timpani with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra and percussion with the Northland Symphony Orchestra.

Her performance will feature music by J.S. Bach, Askell Masson, Minoru, Miki, Astor Piazzolla, Frederic Rzewski and Joseph Schwantner.

Special guest performers at the recital include Kanako Chikami, Kathryn Irwin, Colby Snider and Tommy Strauser.
