Baldwin City, Kan. — Baker University has announced plans to close the student-run Art Affair Gallery at Seventh and High Streets.

“The Art Affair has had a distinguished past serving Baker and the community of Baldwin,” said Lee Mann, chair of Baker’s art department. “It is time to rejuvenate and rethink how we want to better serve the University and community as a cultural resource.”

Art Affair, part of Baker’s downtown since 1995, averaged an exhibition once a month during academic years, Mann said.

Baker officials plan to locate and develop another space to serve as a teaching area for students and as an exhibition venue for area artists.

“We plan to move forward and take time to focus on where the best location for a gallery would be,” Mann said. “There’s a tremendous cooperation between the community and Baker. It’s exciting to think how we can enhance the gallery space.”
