The events are designed to help students transition to college life and learn more about the University's traditions. The first day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 23. Pat Long, the former acting executive vice chancellor at University of Missouri-Kansas City, is entering her first year as president of Baker University. Here are the Welcome Week activities planned for Aug. 19-Aug. 25: Saturday, Aug. 19 8 a.m.: Residence halls open. 9 a.m.-2 p.m.: Check-in, Harter Union lobby. 10 a.m.-noon: Choir auditions for returning students, Owens Musical Arts Building 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Lunch. Fall meal plan begins for residential students 2 p.m.: Parents send-off session, Rice Auditorium 2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Choir auditions for returning students only, Owens Musical Arts Building 4 p.m.: First orientation meetings with FYE and transfer student groups, Collins Gym 5 p.m.-6:15 p.m.: All-campus picnic and activities fair, Hartley Plaza 6:15 p.m.: Class 2010 group photo, steps of Parmenter Hall 6:30 p.m.: Freshmen and transfers line up for Traditions Walk, Hartley Plaza 6:45 p.m.: Wildcat Welcome Night.
