Richard to be added to Kansas Sports Hall of Fame
Baldwin City, Kan. — Legendary Baker University football coach Charlie Richard will be inducted posthumously into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame on June 3 in Wichita.
Richard, a national College Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2004, compiled a 123-28-1 record for an 80.9 winning percentage, an NAIA record, while at Baker.
Richard coached at Baker in 1980-90 and 1992-94. He guided the Wildcats to 10 NAIA national playoff appearances in 14 seasons, including a berth in the 1986 national championship game.
Baker was ranked in the NAIA top 25 a record 128 consecutive weeks while Richard, who died of a heart attack in 1994, was head coach.
Other inductees for the Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2006 will be Darren Daulton, Bobby Douglass, Howard Engleman, Natasha Matson Fife, Catherine Fox, Bill Hougland, Xavier McDaniel, Jack Mitchell, Bill Morse, Bill Snyder, Luther Taylor, Otto Unruh and Marian Washington.
