Baldwin City, Kan. — Derek Doerfler, a place-kicker on Baker University’s football team, is featured in this week’s Sports Illustrated’s Faces In the Crowd.

Doerfler, a junior from Lee’s Summit, Mo., was a three-time NAIA national special teams player of the week honoree in 2007. He set school records for field goals in a season (23), game (five) and longest field goal (62 yards). Seven of his kicks were longer than 50 yards.

The Baker kicker and Shane Longest, a kicker for St. Xavier (Ill.), both finished with 23 field goals in the regular season to set an NAIA record. Herve Roussel, of Wayne State (Neb.), made 22 field goals in 1984.
