Baldwin City, Kan. — The Baker Orange online site, produced by Baker University students, has been selected as a finalist for the national Pacemaker Award for online journalism. The Pacemaker is often referred to as the Pulitzer Prize of college journalism.

Dave Bostwick, assistant professor of communication, is the adviser for the online site, www.thebakerorange.com. Chansi Long, a junior from Sedan, is the site editor. Wes Mikel, who graduated in December 2007, served as the site editor last fall. Mikel is from Lenexa.

“Dave and his students have been doing extraordinary work in this cutting-edge area of media,” said Gwyn Mellinger, associate professor and chair of the mass media and communication department.

The Pacemaker winners will be announced during the 87th annual National College Media Convention Oct. 29-Nov. 2 at the Downtown Marriott in Kansas City, Mo. The Baker Orange print edition won the Pacemaker in 2004.
