Baldwin City, Kan. – Baker University’s student newspaper, The Baker Orange, and its online edition have been named a 2008 Associated College Press Newspaper Pacemaker finalist.
Newspaper finalists were chosen based on excellence in the following areas: coverage and content, quality of writing and editing, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout and design, photography, art and graphics.
Jenalea Myers, a 2008 Baker graduate, served as editor of the Baker Orange in 2007-2008. Chansi Long was the online editor. Gwyn Mellinger, professor of mass media, is the adviser of the Baker Orange. Dave Bostwick, assistant professor of mass media and communication, is adviser to the online site.
Since 1927, the Pacemaker has been the highest honor available to ACP members and today is considered one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate journalism.
The 2008 winners will be honored at the Associated College Press/College Media Advisers National College Media Convention awards ceremony in Kansas City on Nov. 1.
