Upon your admission to Baker University, your academic profile will be reviewed to determine whether you are eligible for merit-based academic scholarship.

HARTER SCHOLARSHIP

Baker's most prestigious academic scholarship, the Harter Scholarship, amounts to a full-tuition scholarship when combined with the Presidential Scholarship. To be eligible, high school graduates must meet two of the three following criteria:  a) minimum recalculated, unweighted GPA of 3.85; b) minimum ACT composite score of 30 or SAT score of 1320, taken no later than the December testing date; or c) top 5% class rank.  Qualified candidates who have been admitted will be sent an application. On campus interview days for the semifinalists will be held on Saturday, December 4, and February 12 and 26, with the results announced late February.  In addition to the selection of a new Harter Scholar, two finalists will receive $1,500 Harter Fellows Scholarships.

Academic Leadership Scholarship - up to $1000

Both freshmen and transfer students eligible for a Foundation scholarship will be invited to come to campus on one of the three scholarship days scheduled for December 4, and February 12 and 26, to interview for an additional scholarship awarded by academic departments.  Students are not obligated to major in the specific department to retain the scholarship.  Renewal is based on successfully earning a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester and maintaining at least a 2.50 cumulative grade point average.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Transfer students admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences with a minimum transfer GPA of 3.25 who can document membership in this honor society serving two-year colleges will be considered for this scholarship.

Scholarly Promise Award
Students who are not eligible for Foundation scholarships and who demonstrate financial need on the FAFSA will be considered for this need-based award.  Eligible applicants must have a 2.50 minimum GPA to be considered.  Other sources of financial aid are taken into account when determining eligibility for this award.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Upon receipt of FAFSA data, eligibility for additional scholarships for both freshmen and transfer students will be determined. Some of the following awards may be added to a Foundation scholarship; however, the total amount of all Baker-funded scholarships and grants cannot exceed the cost of tuition for the upcoming year. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and earn a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester to renew any of the following awards:

Alumni Legacy Award - $250
Children and grandchildren of Baker alumni who graduated from Baker's College of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing, or School of Professional and Graduate Studies are eligible for an Alumni Legacy Award of $250 per year.

Participation Award
Admitted students who exhibit special talent in certain areas may be eligible for a participation award. Awards vary according to level of funding, number of applicants, and the student's contribution to the activity. You should contact the faculty sponsor or coach directly at Baker about application criteria. Continuous participation in art, athletics, cheerleading, dance squad, forensics, journalism, radio/TV, music, or theater is required to retain the award.

Out-Of-State Grant - ranges $200 to $3000
Incoming students who are not residents of Kansas may be eligible for this need-based award. It was established to help needy out-of-state students offset the loss of their home-state grant eligibility. The FAFSA and institutional aid application must be completed annually. Not all out-of-state students are funded.

Bishop Quayle Church-Matching Scholarship
If you are an active participant in a church, you may request on the Application for Admission and Financial Aid the separate application for this matching scholarship. You should submit the Bishop Quayle Scholarship application to the church for consideration. Baker will match the church's contribution from an established scholarship fund up to $600 per year. The participating church DOES NOT have to be a United Methodist Church. However, the funds must come directly from the church, and cannot be funded by the parents or the student.

Cultural Diversity Scholarship
At least one of your parents must be Native American  or Native Alaskan, Asian or Pacific Islander, African American, or Hispanic. You must also be a U.S. citizen and enrolled full-time at Baker University. The FAFSA and institutional aid application must be completed annually for this need-based award.

Other Aid
The following sources of aid are available from other donors. Contact the Financial Aid Office for applications:

Diffenbaugh Grant for Missouri Residents
United Methodist Scholarships

The Office of Financial Aid is the only office at Baker University authorized to offer financial aid to students. Only awards originating from this office will constitute a commitment on behalf of Baker University. Recommendations for awards can be made by faculty or staff on campus, and these are taken into consideration before the award letter is sent. Financial aid is disbursed through the Business Office at the beginning of each semester. Employment checks for campus work are disbursed monthly.

WHAT CAN YOU LOOK FORWARD TO?

After you have been enrolled at Baker University for one year, you will be considered for additional sources of institutional aid:

• Challenge Loan/Grant funds become available beginning your sophomore year. The funds start out as a loan, but are forgiven if you graduate from Baker. This program helps students absorb some of the impact of a tuition increase between years.

• Departmental Recognition Awards are awarded each May to at least two rising senior majors per department, plus five other scholarships are available to Honor students.
