Update from Search Chair Hoot Gibson

Dear University Community:

This is the first in a series of regular updates I plan to share with you on behalf of the Presidential Search Committee regarding our shared efforts to find the next great leader for Baker and a worthy successor to President Pat Long.

I would like to thank all of the students, faculty, staff, alumni, community leaders and Baker friends who participated in the presearch study our consultant Julie Tea of AGB Search led on the Baldwin City campus recently. The passion and love for Baker University was evident in every session during the two-day visit. I came away with a full heart and some meaningful insights from the Baker family.

While many of you made special accommodations in your schedule to participate, we are aware that not all of you, particularly those on our sister campuses, were able to share your insights. Please know that we welcome your input on Baker's points of attraction, greatest leadership challenges and opportunities, as well as the desired skill sets and attributes for the presidential candidate of choice. Please feel free to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , ideally before the end of April, with your comments. The thoughtful insights offered by all of Baker's valued constituents will provide the basis for the creation of the search prospectus, a crucial tool that will be used to solicit nominations and recruit candidates nationally.

The search is off to a good start. I will post updates as we enter subsequent stages of the process. Please feel free to contact me via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thank you for your support.
