Moodle Learning Management System
Baker University is excited to begin phasing in Moodle to provide online support to students and faculty. Much like Blackboard, Moodle makes course content and tools readily available online and can be used for fully online courses or as supplemental support for on-ground courses.
After careful analysis of the two course management systems, Baker faculty and administrators determined that Moodle provides the features and benefits to best support our students. Therefore, between now and May 2010, we will phase in Moodle to replace Blackboard as the University’s e-learning platform.
Interaction & Flexibility
Although Baker's version of Blackboard provides excellent online support, our new choice of Moodle offers additional features:
- No separate login. Once you’re logged into MyBaker portal, you’ll have access to Moodle and all your course materials.
- Through Moodle, you can chat online with other students and your instructor about course concepts and can exchange links, files and information.
- Instructors can provide online feedback on your assignments.
- Multimedia integration encourages media-rich and interactive courses.
- Moodle offers numerous options for course design. Your instructor might use a chronological format, setting milestones week by week, or design the course around major concepts and topics.
- Additional features include forums, quizzes, resources, glossaries, surveys, chats, wikis and workshops.
Help & Support
The transition to Moodle will occur gradually from now until May of 2010. This will allow ample time to support faculty and students and ensure a smooth transition. The following support is available to students:
