BU Falls to Culver to Open HAAC Tourney

JOPLIN, Mo. – The No. 5 seeded Baker University baseball team fell 6-3 to Culver-Stockton on Thursday afternoon in the first game of the 2014 HAAC Baseball Conference Tournament.

The Wildcats will next take on No. 8 Benedictine at 10 a.m. on Friday morning in the losers bracket, with a loss the 'Cats season would end, with a victory, Baker would go on to play at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.

Jimmy Gricol got the start for BU and went 5.2 innings allowing just two earned runs, but did allow 11 hits and a walk.

Seth Jones came in to pitch the final 3.1 innings and gave up the final run to Culver and allowed another four hits, giving Culver 15 hits on the day.

The Wildcats put eight hits on the board with Gabe Greenbaum and Josh Zach each collecting two.

Lechien, Greenbaum and Zach were the only Wildcats to knock in a run. Cory Brennon, Neal Boyce, Taylor Whittum and Lake Johnson were the other 'Cats to collect a run.
