Before arriving at Mahoning Valley, Nuno began his professional career with the Indians rookie-level team in Arizona. While pitching in Arizona, Nuno posted a 0-0 record with a 5.14 ERA. Upon his arrival at Mahoning Valley, Nuno was slated to pitch strictly out of the bullpen. In his first five appearances out of the bullpen, Nuno went 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA (13.2 IP, 11 H, 6 BB, and 15 K), but eventually moved into the rotation for a spot start. Nuno pitched so well in his spot start, Mahoning decided to keep him there. Since then, Nuno has made seven starts posting a 4-0 record with a 1.66 ERA (38.0 IP, 26 H, 7 BB, and 28 Ks).
Nuno has been the most consistent starter since mid-July for Mahoning Valley. “He has really rounded out and finished off what is a very nice five-man rotation out there,” said a representative from Mahoning. “Anytime you get this kind of consistent, dominating performance from a late-round pick, you have to tip your cap to the scouting department for potentially finding a late-round gem.”
