Baker annouced two signings on Tuesday afternoon

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker University head baseball coach Philip Hannon announced on Tuesday the signing of two middle infielders — Luis Ramirez and Ryan Lasneske — to national letters of intent.

Ramirez, a junior transfer from Kansas City Kansas Community College, will join the team this spring. Lasneske, a senior at Leavenworth High School, will join the team in the fall of 2010.

Coach Hannon learned of Ramirez through the Tom Urquhart’s School of Baseball.

"Ramirez wasn't playing while he was at (KCKCC),” Hannon said. “Our team is a little short on depth this spring. He will fit in nicely with the role he will be playing on this team. He has some of the best hands and feet on our squad.”

Lasneske recently was selected as the winner of the 2009 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Character and Leadership Award. Out of the 1,000 athletes who participate in Major League Baseball's RBI program, Lasneske was the only player to earn the award.

"Getting a kid with great character is what you’re always looking for,” Hannon said. “But getting good baseball skills, as well, is a huge plus. His glove and arm across the diamond are something special. His leadership, determination and passion will be a true asset for Baker University.”
