Cummins throws a gem, Baker splits again

Chris Cummins

Sophomore Chris Cummins pitched seven scoreless innings in the 2-0 win.

LAMONI, IOWA - The Baker University baseball team split a doubleheader with Graceland University for the second consecutive day on Monday afternoon. Baker won the first game 2-0 and dropped the finale 8-2.

Sophomore left-hander Chris Cummins (2-0) threw a complete-game shutout while giving up only three hits on 13 strikeouts, as the Wildcats took game one 2-0. Nick Peterson and Joey Orozco each added RBIs in the victory.

Game two didn't go as smoothly for the Wildcats. Two big innings killed BU, as the Yellowjackets managed to score seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Sophomore Nathan Wheelock pitched a steady four innings before the Graceland bats really got rolling to seal the fate of the game.

Baker (9-12, 5-5) will be back in action this weekend when they play host to Benedictine College (5-15, 5-7) at 1:00 p.m., from Sauder Field on Saturday afternoon.
