Wildcats set to face MidAmerica on re-scheduled Senior Day

Sophomore LHP Chris Cummins will try to improve to 7-1 on the season.

As the 2010 season comes to a close, the Baker Wildcats will be battling to qualify for the HAAC Playoffs.

The Wildcats send sophomore ace Chris Cummins (6-1) to the mound Saturday against MidAmerica Nazarene Univeristy.

"Cummins has undoubtedly been our most steady pitcher all season," Baker head coach Phil Hannon said. "The guys are comfortable with him on the mound." A steady and balanced attack will most certainly be needed if the Wildcats plan on celebrating Senior Day in style.

The Wildcats will need to win its next three games against MidAmerica to have any hopes of making postseason play. Baker currently sits in fourth-place in the West Region with MNU, Avila and William Jewell leading the way. Ultimately, Baker is in a do-or-die situation where they can control their postseason fate.

Offensively, the Wildcats should be up to the task. Baker ranks No. 6 in the conference with a batting average of .311, while the leader (Avila) sits at .350.

Coach Hannon made a bold move Wednesday, inserting sophomore Nathan Wheelock into a shaky bullpen that has plagued the Wildcats all season.

The Wildcats bullpen is 4-9 with a 11.84 ERA with one save on the season.

Baker ranks No. 10 in the conference with an overall ERA of 7.69.

"We're not in an ideal situation, but we know what we have to do in order to advance to the postseason. You have to look at this in a positive way, win and your in," said head coach Phil Hannon.

The Senior Day Ceremony will begin at 12:45 p.m., with the first pitch following immediately after.
