Baker notches doubleheader sweep over Missouri Valley College
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker Wildcats (7-9, 3-5 HAAC) recorded their second sweep of the season and halted its three-game losing streak with victories over Missouri Valley (5-11, 0-6 HAAC).
The Wildcats scored early and often in both games. Baker finally got the bats going after being in a drought the past three games. Baker jumped out to an early three-run lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Vikings helped the Wildcats with numerous bobbles and misplayed balls. In the third the Wildcats took advantage of the bases being loaded and scored four insurance runs on its way to a 9-0 shutout. Christopher Cummins (pictured) went the distance on the mound recording his first shutout of the season.
The Wildcats kept the momentum rolling into the second game scoring two runs apiece in each of the first four innings. Nathan Wheelock pitched all seven innings while silencing the Vikings in a late seventh inning rally.
“We gave an outstanding effort,” said head coach Phil Hannon. “We had good offensive production and scored in all but four innings.”
Baker returns to action on March 18th for a doubleheader at Evangel. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but due to weather the game was moved to Friday.
