Wildcats split doubleheader with Ottawa University
OTTAWA, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team had another tale of two stories on Tuesday afternoon splitting a doubleheader with Ottawa University. The Braves (10-13) dominated Baker in game one, 13-4, but the Wildcats (8-12) came back in game two winning, 16-0.
Chris Cummins pitched five innings in the opener giving up six earned runs on five hits. Brian Replogle and Josh Vossen each gave up three earned runs in relief. Steven Stewart (pictured) led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with two RBI’s. Bryan Kindle also added two RBI’s while going 1-for-4 at the plate.
Game two was an entirely different story for the Wildcats as they got on the scoreboard early putting up nine runs in the first inning. Steven Stewart led the offense yet again going 3-for-4 with four RBI’s. Brandon Truitt smacked his second home run of the season, as Baker scored another seven runs in the third inning and never looked back from that point forward.
Nathan Wheelock was stellar pitching five innings, while giving up three hits and zero earned runs.
The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Sauder Field against Benedictine College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
