Three Wildcats named to All-HAAC baseball squad

All-HAAC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Brandon Truitt (Kansas City, Kan.), Chris Cummins (Corona, Calif.) and Joey Orozco (Chula Vista, Calif.) have been named to the 2011 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

All-HAAC first team
Senior Brandon Truitt, the team’s leading offensive producer, finished the season with a .384 batting average with two home runs and a slugging percentage of .528.  As a catcher, Truitt recorded 190 putouts while committing only six errors on the season for a fielding percentage of .972.

All-HAAC honorable mention
Junior Chris Cummins led the Wildcats on the mound for the second consecutive season with a 5-3 overall record and 3.03 ERA. He ranked 17th nationally with 10.74 batters struck out per nine innings.


Junior Joey Orozco finished the season with the second best batting average on the team at .373 while driving in 20 RBIs. Orozco finished the season with a .987 fielding percentage while committing only one error in right field. With his performance, he was named a 2011 HAAC Rawlings Gold Glove recipient.

Freshman Matt Abel (Eudora, Kan.) was also named a 2011 HAAC Rawlings Gold Glove recipient for his play in center field.
