CRETE, Neb. – No. 23 ranked Doane swept the Baker University baseball team in its four-game series this week with a 6-0 and 1-0 win on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats fell to 1-11 on the season with the two losses and scored just two runs in the four-game set.

In game one, Baker managed just two hits, as Brett Lechien and Josh Zach captured the two hits in the 1-2 spots in the batting order.

Jimmy Gricol got the start for Baker in the first game and went three innings giving up five earned runs and struck out one batter.

Doane did its damage in the first and second innings scoring two runs in the first and three in the second, then added a sixth in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers scored six runs on eight hits.

In game two, the Wildcats had four hits, as Zach added another hit and was joined by teammates Bryan Kindle, Justin Lane and Miles Sanderson with a hit apiece.

Caleb Lee went all six innings on the mound for the 'Cats and pitched outstanding giving up just one run and struck out three Tigers.

Baker had a chance in the top of the seventh inning to tie things up, as Matt Fry drew a two out walk, then Ryan Terstriep drew a walk, but Neal Boyce struck out swinging to end the game.

Baker will have its home opener coming up next week on Friday, Mar. 15 as they host HAAC rival Central Methodist at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
