BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University junior pitcher Brett Lechien threw a complete game one-hitter on Tuesday afternoon to help the Wildcats win their second straight game in a 3-2 game one win of a doubleheader against Tabor College (RV).

Lechien also helped himself out at the plate with a 1-for-3 day and scored a run. Baker fell in game two, 5-3 to the Blue Jays.

Lechien picked up the win after throwing all seven innings and striking out four batters. He almost went the distance for a no-hitter, as he made it to the seventh inning with the no-no and finally gave up a hit with one out as Keenan Chanin laced a triple to right field that scored Jake Landers.

Baker had eight hits in the first game and Bryan Kindle and Neal Boyce each led the way with two hits.

In game two, Baker looked as if they were headed for a sweep with three runs scored in the first inning.

The scoring began with a single by Josh Ackerman that scored Matt Fry, then catcher Miles Sanderson singled and scored Bryan Kindle. With the bases loaded, Ethan Jacks came up and took a walk and scored Ackerman.

But the Wildcats came up empty handed the rest of the way and couldn't muster another run.

The 'Cats sent four pitchers to the mound and starter Caleb Lee was the only pitcher to not give up a run. He pitched two innings with just one hit allowed.

Tevin Thompson went two innings, Ryan Hahn threw an inning of relief and Justin Bye threw the final two and received the loss.

Baker will next hit the road for a four-game set at rival MidAmerica Nazarene. They will take on the Pioneers on Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 and 4 p.m. and then Saturday, Apr. 13 at 2 and 4 p.m. in Olathe, Kan.
