BC Takes Three of Four From Baker

ATCHISON, Kan. – Benedictine College took three games out of its four-game series with Baker University on Saturday and Sunday to put Baker just above .500 in the HAAC standings at 7-5.

The Wildcats began the HAAC season a perfect 6-0 and have now dropped five of its last six games.

BC won game one, 10-1, then Baker took game two, 5-1, while BC won both games on Sunday, 6-4 and 8-7 in 11 innings.

In game one, senior Jimmy Gricol got the start and went five innings, but allowed nine runs and 10 hits.

Offensively, the 'Cats could only manage just four hits with Neal Boyce, Ethan Jacks, Brett Lechien and Lake Johnson recording those hits.

In game two, senior Thomas Hawkins went the distance and captured the victory throwing all seven innings and allowing just four hits and struck out seven batters.

Josh Zach knocked in two RBI and hit a home run, while Taylor Whittum went 2-for-3 and Tyler Cawley and Gabe Greenbaum each knocked in a run.

In the third game, Seth Jones suffered the loss after throwing 4.2 innings. Neal Boyce hit a home run for the 'Cats and Zach went a perfect 3-for-3. The Wildcats had 13 hits in the contest with four multi-hit performances.

Game four was a thriller, with Baker trailing, 5-1, in the top of the sixth. Baker's bats erupted in that sixth inning with five runs to go up, 6-5.

Baker added a run in the top of the seventh, to go up, 7-5. But BC added two runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie it up. Both teams went scoreless all the way until the 11th when Chris Johnson doubled to deep left field that scored Jacob Kirmer to end the game.

Baker returns home to face William Penn on Wednesday, Apr. 2 at 1 and 3 p.m. at Sauder Field.
