BU Sweeps Culver, Moves to 9-5 in HAAC

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team swept HAAC opponent Culver-Stockton on Saturday, 5-4 and 7-0, to move to 9-5 in the conference, now second-place in the HAAC Western Division.

In game one, Jimmy Gricol nearly went the distance throwing 6.1 innings giving up four earned runs and striking out four batters.

Baker scored three of its runs off of freshman Cort Brennan's bat. The pinch hitter drove in three runs in his lone at-bat.

Josh Zach and Taylor Whittum drove in the other two runs.

In game two, Thomas Hawkins nearly went all nine innings, as he was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the ninth by Kyle Pattrick.

Hawkins gave up just two hits on the day along with a shutout and struck out nine batters.

Offensively, Baker scored seven runs on 13 hits. Lake Johnson had a big day going 3-fo-5 with two RBI's.

Baker posted three extra base hits with Josh Zach picking up a triple and Ethan Jacks and Brett Lechien each doubling.

The 'Cats will next take on non-conference opponent University of St. Mary on Wednesday, April 9 at 4 and 6 p.m.
