Three Wildcats named to All-HAAC baseball squad
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Brandon Truitt (Kansas City, Kan.), Chris Cummins (Corona, Calif.) and Joey Orozco (Chula Vista, Calif.) have been named to the 2011 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
All-HAAC first team
Senior Brandon Truitt, the team’s leading offensive producer, finished the season with a .384 batting average with two home runs and a slugging percentage of .528. As a catcher, Truitt recorded 190 putouts while committing only six errors on the season for a fielding percentage of .972.

Wildcats split season series with MidAmerica Nazarene
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After splitting this past weekend with the Pioneers, Baker (17-20, 10-14 HAAC) managed to do the same on Monday evening on the campus of Baker University.
Nathan Wheelock went the distance in game one pitching a complete game giving up just two earned runs on six hits to lead the Wildcats to a 6-3 victory.
The turning point in the game came in the sixth inning when Matt Abel got the action started with a single up the middle. Joey Orozco kept the momentum rolling with a single off the third base bag into left field and Jared Herbert drove in the game winning runs on a double to deep left-center field. Herbert finished the game going 2-for-2 with three RBI’s.

Baker splits with MNU, will look for series victory Monday night
OLATHE, Kan. – Chris Cummins pitched a gem in game one, but the Baker offense wasn’t able to put anything together in game two as the Wildcats split a key conference doubleheader with MidAmerica Nazarene (27-11, 17-5 HAAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Baker (16-19, 9-13 HAAC) essentially needs two victories tonight to keep its hopes alive of making the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament.
Brandon Truitt continues to pace the Baker offense with .430 batting average and 29 RBI’s, good enough for 23rd nationally. Chris Cummins leads the Baker pitching staff with a 3.31 ERA and averages 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings, good enough for 19th nationally.

Wildcats walk-off twice against Benedictine
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The weather wasn’t snowing this time around, as the Baker Wildcats defeated Benedictine College in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played on March 27th.
Matt Abel got the rally started in the bottom of the eighth inning with a lead-off single and Bryan Kindle followed with a single to right, moving Abel over to third. Brandon Truitt came through yet again with a single to tie the game at 8-8. Jared Herbet was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Chase Dengel’s sacrifice fly to right-center sealed the game for Kindle to score from third.

Wildcats go 3-1 against William Jewell College in weekend series
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - In the last meeting between the Baker and William Jewell baseball teams as Heart of America Athletic Conference opponents, the Wildcats won three of four in the weekend series.
Baker (13-18 overall, 7-12 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference) won both games on Friday at Sauder Field off two walk-off singles. In the 10th inning of game one, Matt Fry singled, Matthew Abel was hit by a pitch and Herbert reached on a walk to load the bases. With one out and trailing 4-3, Brandon Truitt singled down the left-field line to score Fry and Abel for the tying and winning runs in a 5-4 Baker victory.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team finished its non-conference schedule on Wednesday evening, splitting a doubleheader with the University of St. Mary.
Five Baker players recorded two hits in game one as the Wildcats dropped an extra inning affair, 3-2 in ten innings. Brandon Truitt and Bryan Kindle were the only Wildcats to record RBI’s in the contest.
Five pitchers took the mound in game one, with Zach Durr pitching three innings giving up no hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts. Sean McAlister pitched two scoreless innings, but the game opened up late.

Baker baseball returns to action Wednesday evening
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Weather permitting, the Baker University baseball team will return to action on Wednesday evening for a non-conference doubleheader with St. Mary’s (Kan.). The first pitch is slated for 5 p.m. from Sauder Field.
The Wildcats (9-12, 4-7 HAAC) are coming off a divisional conference victory against Benedictine College on Sunday afternoon. Joshua Zach led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with two RBI’s. After taking a 2-0 lead early, Benedictine closed the gap to a 2-2 tie in the fifth. Baker responded in the sixth scoring two runs and James Gricol closed the game out in the seventh. Chris Cummins pitched six innings giving up one earned run on six hits.

Wildcats split doubleheader with Ottawa University
OTTAWA, Kan. – The Baker University baseball team had another tale of two stories on Tuesday afternoon splitting a doubleheader with Ottawa University. The Braves (10-13) dominated Baker in game one, 13-4, but the Wildcats (8-12) came back in game two winning, 16-0.
Chris Cummins pitched five innings in the opener giving up six earned runs on five hits. Brian Replogle and Josh Vossen each gave up three earned runs in relief. Steven Stewart (pictured) led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with two RBI’s. Bryan Kindle also added two RBI’s while going 1-for-4 at the plate.
