Baseball team returns to action Saturday and Sunday
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Wildcat baseball team split its Wednesday afternoon doubleheader with the St. Mary’s Spires. The two games played out exactly the opposite of each other.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats had the bats cracking and the pitching was solid. Chris Cummins took the first pitch and set the tone for the Baker defense. Cummins struck out three of the six batters he faced. In the second inning, Brandon Truitt and Jared Herbert led off with back-to-back singles. Bryan Kindle hit a double to score Truitt. A wild pitch and an error brought in the two other runs for the Wildcats.

Baker baseball drops season opening series
CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Baker University baseball team got the 2011 season kicked off this past weekend against Roger State University and Ottawa University.
The Wildcats (1-3 overall) dropped their opening game of the season to Rogers State (9-1 overall) in five innings 14-4. Brandon Truit, Steven Stewart, Jared Herbert and Andrew Leiker all recorded RBI’s in the contest, but the Rogers State offense was too strong as they went on to record 16 hits and 14 runs in the contest.

Wildcat baseball team set for season opener
CLAREMORE, Okla. – Baseball season has officially arrived.
The Baker University baseball team will open its 2011 campaign this weekend on the campus of Rogers State University.
With 16 freshmen and five returning starters from a squad that went 17-24 in 2010, Wildcat coach Phil Hannon fully expects his team to be competitive.

Four Wildcats named All-Conference

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Four Baker student-athletes were among the list of All-Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball players, released Thursday afternoon. In a vote by league coaches, pitcher Chris Cummins (Corona, Calif.) garnered first-team accolades, followed by senior second baseman Nick Peterson (Olathe, Kan.) who along with being named to the first-team, was also awarded the gold glove for his stellar play at second base.

'Discover Greatness' exhibit to be on display in Baldwin City
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Baker University baseball program is partnering with the National Negro League Baseball Museum to showcase the great American pastime in May and June.
From May 17 to June 20, the Negro League Baseball Museum will bring its traveling exhibit, 'Discover Greatness,' to Holt-Russell Gallery on the Baldwin City campus. The exhibit will provide an educational opportunity for more than 300 baseball players and their families as they make their way to Baldwin City this spring.

Baker eliminated from playoff contention
Steven Stewart had one of Baker's four hits Friday afternoon.
OLATHE, Kan. - Nick Peterson gave Baker a 2-0 lead in the first-inning on a two-run home run, but it was MidAmerica Nazarene countering the Baker effort with three runs in the first and second innings before delivering the knockout blow with a six-run fourth-inning rally.
Ultimately it was pitching that won the game for MidAmerica Nazarene. MNU pitcher Harrison Helms (6-3) was stellar giving up two earned runs on four hits en route to his sixth victory of the season. The Wildcats gave up 12 earned runs on 11 hits.
