Baker women take on NW Oklahoma State in season opener
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Baker women will get their 2009 season rolling Friday when they take on Northwest Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. Returning starters Audrey Bryant and Aubree Gustin will look to provide the team with an early spark this season. Gustin led the team in scoring last season, averaging 12.1 points per game, while Bryant chipped in with 8.9 points per game.
Jenna Brantley (pictured) and Brooke Soske are the only returning nonstarting juniors from last season's squad. Brantley averaged 3.5 points per game while coming off the bench in 2008. Look for Brantley to pursue a more active role running the offense in the 2009 campaign.
Transfers Emily Gibson (Washburn), JaNeil Robinson (Cowley CC), Brittany Hines (Hutchinson CC), Courtney Goodrum (Cowley CC), and Cameron Roland (Kansas City Kansas CC), will give an added scoring punch to all spots in the lineup.
Their opponent, the Rangers, come into the game 1-0 on the season after defeating Langston (Okla.), in their season opener 84-82. Five players posted double digits as Claudia Vazquez scored 21 points off the bench, hitting 9 of 12 from the field. Audrey Richmond chipped in 17 points, while Annalena Farias recorded 13. Keindra Scott finished with 12, as Heather O’Neal scored 11. Farias and Richmond led Northwestern with six rebounds each.
Action will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Collins Center.
