Soske lifts Baker to playoff victory, 61-50
Students

The Baker students were out in full force Thursday evening.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -  On fire was an understatement for Brooke Soske (pictured) Thursday evening. Coming off the bench, Soske went 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in a 61-50 victory over Avila University in the first round of the HAAC playoffs.

Junior Aubree Gustin also had 13 points, nine of which came from the charity-stripe.Brooke Soske

First half action saw a back-and-fourth battle between two of the top teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Heading into halftime, it was the Wildcats holding a 29-28 advantage. Junior Emily Gibson was held scoreless, yet the Wildcats seemed to be riding the momentum.

A 9-0 run by Baker in the second half ultimately sealed the fate of the Eagles. Courtney Gimlin of Avila wasn't about to give up that easy. Gimlin went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc while scoring a team-high 21 points. It wasn't enough. Baker stretched its lead to 14 points late and closed the game out with an 11 point victory.

The Wildcats will travel to No. 1 William Jewell College Saturday evening for a 7:00 p.m., tipoff. The Wildcats and Cardinals split their season series with both teams winning on the road.

A Thank You From Coach Decker

Hi All,
Just wanted to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who attended our game tonight against Avila.  It was the BEST HOME COURT atmosphere we have had here in the 10 years I have been coaching at Baker.  We could not have done it without all of you.  I know our kids fed off of your energy and enthusiasm and are PROUD to be a BAKER WILDCAT!

We will play again on Saturday night at William Jewell at 7:00 and hope you can make an effort to be there for us again.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR ENERGY TONIGHT!!!  It was AWESOME!!

-Coach
