Baker (7-5, 3-1 HAAC) last took the hardwood on Dec. 9th, defeating Central Methodist University 50-34 in Baldwin City. Emily Gibson sparked the Wildcats off the bench netting a team-high 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field while also pulling down eight rebounds. Brittany Hines and Courtney Goodrum each chipped in with eight points apiece en route to the Cats‘ third-straight victory.
THE BAKER LEADERS
Senior guard Brittany Hines continues to lead the Baker offense averaging 13.4 points per game. Seniors Emily Gibson and Aubree Gustin continue to dominate the paint. Gibson is currently averaging 13.1 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game. Gustin is averaging 9.6 points per game while pulling down 7.5 rebounds per contest.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The University of Rio Grande (10-3, 7-1 MSC) enters play receiving eight votes in the most recent NAIA Division I Top 25 Coaches‘ Poll. Wednesday afternoon the RedStorm defeated host Southwestern College 107-80 in its first game of the Grand Canyon Holiday Classic. The Red Storm had five players score in double figures, with senior guard Jenna Smith leading the way scoring a team-high 27 points with seven three-pointers. Rio shot 45 percent (36-of-80) from the field, including 14-of-42 (33.3 percent) from three-point land. The RedStorm connected on 21-of-27 (77.8 percent) from the free-throw line.
Southwestern College (1-9) enters play reeling. The Eagles have dropped seven-straight games heading into Friday’s contest against Baker. Steffani Linscum leads the Eagles with 22.2 points per game.
