Wildcats fall short to No. 24 MNU

Rae Lynne Stewart

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Seniors Gloria Atanmo and Rae Lynne Stewart each recorded game-high’s of 14 points apiece, but it wasn’t enough to overcome MNU’s big second half as the Wildcats fell, 63-51.

Heading into the break the Wildcats held a 27-26 advantage, but MNU came out of the break with a steady offensive attack and took the lead for good with 18 minutes to play in regulation.

“We’ve got some big games ahead of us still,” said head Baker women’s basketball coach Ben Lister. “We just need to worry about ourselves and win a couple games down the stretch.”

Atanmo also led the Baker defense with 12 rebounds, good enough for her ninth double-double of the season. Free throws also played a key role down the stretch for Baker (7-20, 5-10 HAAC) as the Wildcats converted just 4-of-14 free throw attempts.

MidAmerica Nazarene (19-8, 12-3 HAAC) had four players score in double figures and as a team finished 25-for-61 (41 percent) from the floor.

Baker returns to action on Feb. 18 against Graceland University at 2 p.m., in Baldwin City.
