Baker looks forward to Senior Day after 67-49 loss to Benedictine

Benedictine Letdown

ATCHISON, Kan. – Baker opened the game with a 3-0 lead and only gained that advantage two more times in the opening 12 minutes before Benedictine finally pulled away.

Baker (6-23, 4-13 HAAC) pulled to within three points with just over a minute to go before the half, but it would be the closest Baker would come, as Benedictine (16-12, 11-6 HAAC) pulled away in the second half for a 67-49 victory.

Freshman Shelbi Petty and senior Rae Lynne Stewart led the Baker offense with team high’s of 12 points apiece. Senior Gloria Atanmo finished as Baker’s leading rebounder with eight.

Bench scoring and points off turnovers ultimately sealed the Wildcats’ fate. Baker was outscored 32-11 off the bench and 35-12 on turnovers. Baker finished with the game with 29 turnovers, its third highest total of the season.

Liz Stinson led Benedictine with a game-high 15 points. Teresa Zienkewicz was the only other Raven in double figures with 13 points.

Baker will close out the 2011-12 campaign on Saturday afternoon against Central Methodist University at 2 p.m., on Feb. 25. Baker seniors Gloria Atanmo, Rae Lynne Stewart, Brooke Soske, and Christy Nelson will be honored in the Senior Day events.
