Wildcats Keep HAAC Record Perfect

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women's basketball team overcame its overtime loss to McPherson on Saturday to win its first game of 2013 with a 76-69 victory over the Peru State Bobcats.

The Wildcats are now 10-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the HAAC and gave the Bobcats their third loss in the HAAC, as Peru State fell to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The Wildcats took the court with an opening 3-point basket by Alisha Fanshier and opened a 7-1 lead over Peru State in the first two minutes of action.

Peru State came back with a nine-point streak of its own, giving the Bobcats a 10-7 lead over the Wildcats with 14:23 to play in the first half.

With less the two minutes to play in the first, the Wildcats broke away from the Bobcats and ended the half with an 11-point lead, 45-36.

The second half Baker began to pull away with its biggest advantage climbing to 15 points, 57-42, with 13:23 left in the game.

Peru then clawed its way back into the contest cutting the Wildcat lead to just five points, 69-64, with a bucket by Jasmine Tate.

Courtney Ward led the way for Peru State with her 30 points on 12-of-22 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.

Rashida Simpson led the Wildcats with 22 rebounds and 12 points, while Avery Vogts tied Simpson 12 points of her own.

The Wildcats will be on the road for their next game at Culver-Stockton on Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
