BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University head women's basketball coach Ben Lister announced on Tuesday the signing of 6'1" forward Katie Gerlach, a transfer from NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University.

Gerlach played her high school basketball at Shawnee Mission South and after graduation signed with perennial power Johnson County Community College where she sat out as a medical redshirt.

After a season at Southwest Baptist, she has decided to join Baker's program. In high school, Katie averaged 10.5 points and seven rebounds per game and was named to the Sunflower All-league team during her senior year. She also was on the Principal's Honor Roll all four years of high school.

"We are excited to have Katie join our program," said Lister. "Depth at the post position is something we wanted to address and Katie will bring that. She has good size and will match up well with other posts in our conference. She also brings a very solid face-up game that we hope to utilize in our offense.

"Katie brings three years of eligibility to the program so we know she will continue to improve as a player. She fits our program and our university extremely well and I know she has a tremendous passion to compete and improve. Her experience against quality competition the last two seasons will really benefit her and we look forward to her being here."
