BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – For the second straight game, the Baker University women's basketball team needed a late shot to pick up a victory, as Shea Shoemaker nailed a bucket with 2.5 seconds to go in the game to give Baker the 74-72 win in day two of the Baker Classic.

The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the year, while SC fell to 1-1. The Wildcats will next take on McPherson on the road next Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.

Before that bucket, Shoemaker was 1-of-10 from the filed, but Baker head coach Ben Lister drew up the play to go to Shoemaker and she knocked in the game-winning layup.

Kyrstie Ehm led the way for Baker with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and BriAnna Garza and Jami Hodge each scored over double figures with 14 points apiece.

Baker had 18 turnovers on the night but caused 22 SC turnovers. Trinicia Shaffer led the way for Southwestern with 16 points and Jana Reichenberger added 15.

The Baker defense held SC to 41.5-percent shooting and free-throw shooting hurt the Mound Builder as they shot just 40.9-percent from the charity stripe, 9-of-22.

Southwestern led 39-31 at the break, but Baker stormed back to win the second half, 43-33.

Freshman Sydney Buchel had a big day on the glass with 13 rebounds and Macy Wallisch was great defensively with four steals, five rebounds and a block.
