BU Opens Tabor Classic with Win

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Baker University women's basketball team opened up the Tabor Classic on Friday afternoon with an 80-65 win over Sterling College to improve to 9-4 on the season.

Senior BriAnna Garza again led the way for the 'Cats with a game high 26 points and was stellar in other areas with six assists and five rebounds and nailed four three-pointers.

Shea Shoemaker and Jami Hodge each had 10 points and defensively, Baker forced 16 turnovers and outrebounded SC, 45-32.

Baker shot 29-of-69 from the floor for a 42-percent clip and shot outstanding from the free-throw line, going 14-of-16 for 87.5-percent.

The Wildcats picked up 11 steals, with three coming from Taylor Chase and four by Avery Vogts.

Sterling was also solid from the free-throw line on 20-of-27 from the line for a percentage of 74.1-percent and they only had five assists on 21 field goals.

Baker will compete in day two of the Tabor Classic on Saturday, as they face tournament host Tabor at 5 p.m. in Hillsboro, Kan.
