No. 1 Baker Advances to HAAC Semis

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The No. 1 seeded Baker University women's basketball team defeated No. 8 Evangel, 64-54, on Thursday night to advance to the semifinals of the 2014 HAAC Conference Tournament and will now take on No. 5 Missouri Valley who defeated No. 4 Benedictine, 77-71, on Thursday.

The Wildcats improved to 25-5 on the year, while the Crusaders ended its 2013-14 season with a record of 8-21.

Baker trailed at the half, 27-24, and had to battle back to finally take the lead and scored 40 points in the second half. The Wildcats led by as many as 13 points in the second half with 2:19 left in the contest.

The game featured three ties and two lead changes and the Wildcats outscored Evangel, 26-14, in the paint.

Baker was led in scoring by junior guard Kystie Ehm who had 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Teammates BriAnna Garza and Shea Shoemaker also scored in double figures with Shoemaker dropping 13 and Garza having 10.

The Wildcats outrebounded Evangel, 37-27, with Macy Wallisch grabbing seven and the 2014 HAAC Defensive Player of the Year had eight blocks.

Wallisch also held 2014 HAAC Freshman of the Year Allison Swanson to just 2-of-11 shooting from the floor.

Baker will next take on No. 5 Missouri Valley on Saturday, Mar. 8 in the HAAC semifinals at 7 p.m. inside the Collins Center.

Thanks to the President's office, free popcorn will again be featured for fans that wear Baker or orange apparel, while supplies last. Also thanks to the BU athletic department the first 100 BU students that show their Baker student ID will be admitted in free.
