Holton High School standout Macy Wallisch inks with Baker
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Macy Wallish a 6’3 post player from Holton High School has officially signed her Letter of Intent with the Wildcats for next season.
Wallish was named to the Jackson County all-league team in 2011 after leading her team to the 2011 4-A State Championship with an undefeated 26-0 record. Wallish is also a member of the track and field team and qualified for the state championships in the women’s triple jump. She was also named an alternate on the 4x400 team the past three seasons. The Denison, Kan., native plans on majoring in Biology (Pre-Medicine).

Baker women fall to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 80-65
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s basketball team dropped its home opener on Friday afternoon in the first game of the 2011 Baker Women’s Basketball Wildcat Classic to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 80-65.

2011 Women’s Basketball Wildcat Classic set for Friday and Saturday
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s basketball team will host the 2011 Wildcat Classic, November 4-5 in the George F. Collins Center.
Local foe MidAmerica Nazarene will be the only school represented from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the tournament. 24th-ranked Rogers State (Okla.) and Northwestern Oklahoma State will represent the Sooner Athletic Conference.
“We’ve got some good competition coming into our gym this weekend,” said head coach Ben Lister. “We’re looking forward to some good fan support for our home opener.”
Friday’s action will feature MidAmerica Nazarene vs No. 24 Rogers State at 5:30 p.m. Baker will take the floor at 7:30 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The opening game on Saturday features Northwestern Oklahoma State vs MidAmerica Nazarene at 1:00 p.m. The Wildcats will close out the tournament at 3:00 p.m. against 24th-ranked Rogers State.

Sluggish offense plagues BU women in season opener
SALINA, Kan. – The Baker University women’s basketball team dropped its season opener on Tuesday evening 74-51 to No. 4 Kansas Wesleyan University.
Rae Lynne Stewart (pictured) led the way offensively for Baker netting nine points on 2-for-3 shooting from the field and 5-for-6 shooting from the charity-stripe. As a team, Baker finished just 16-for-47 (34 percent) from the field and 2-for-15 (13.3 percent) from beyond the arc.
Rashida Simpson led the Baker defense with 10 rebounds and one block.
Turnovers were the story though as Baker committed an all-time high 38 turnovers. Kansas Wesleyan also outscored the Wildcats 32-16 in the paint.

Wildcats rebuild and reload for 2011-12 under new head coach Ben Lister
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After losing its starting five to graduation, the Baker women’s basketball team looks to turn to a new chapter in the 2011-12 season as head coach Ben Lister takes over the reins.
Senior Gloria Atanmo (Avondale, Ariz.) is the top returner from last year’s squad. Other key returners are senior Rae Lynne Stewart (Independence, Mo.) and sophomore Rachel Taghaboni (Los Angeles, Calif.)
Atanmo played in 28 games last season, averaging 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Taghaboni and Stewart played in 30 and 26 games, respectively.

Local star Ericka Simpson signs with Baker
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Area high school girls basketball standout Ericka Simpson has signed with Baker University, Wildcat head coach Ben Lister announced on Wednesday.
Simpson, a senior point guard from Spring Hill High School, signed her letter of intent with the Wildcats on Sept. 14.
“We could not have been more pleased with the addition of Ericka to our program,” Lister said. “She is an excellent student-athlete. Her ability to play the one or two will allow us to utilize her skill set in multiple ways. We are fortunate to have her join our program.”

Women’s basketball team reloads for 2011-12 season
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – New Baker University head women’s basketball coach Ben Lister has been busy this summer, announcing on Tuesday the signing of nine student-athletes for the fall season.
“I’m pleased with the depth of our incoming class,” Lister said. “This is a group that brings versatility, toughness and a winning mentality to our team. Every incoming player will be able to compete for playing time immediately; therefore the competition in practice should be intense and productive.”

Ben Lister named head coach of Baker women's basketball
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Ben Lister has been named head coach of the Baker University women’s basketball program, Baker athletics director Theresa Yetmar announced on Monday.
Lister, an assistant women’s basketball coach at Barton County Community College, takes over for Susan Decker, who resigned earlier this spring after coaching the Lady ’Cats for 11 seasons.
Coach Lister served as an assistant coach at Barton County Community College for four years. During his time at Barton, the Cougars compiled a 94-36 record and won the 2008 and 2009 Jayhawk West Conference Championship on their way to a Region VI Championship.
