Northwestern Oklahoma State takes down Baker in season openerEmily Gibson

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Newcomer Brittany Hines (Hutchinson CC transfer) led the way for the Wildcats Friday evening scoring 12 points off 4-10 shooting from the field. Emily Gibson (Washburn transfer) chipped in 11 points off 3-11 shooting from the field.

Heading into halftime the Wildcats led 25-24 thanks to a buzzer-beating shot from Aubree Gustin as time expired.

The Wildcats were outscored 31-25 in the second half. Emily Gibson (picture) led the way defensively pulling down seven rebounds and blocking two shots. Northwestern Oklahoma State improved to 2-0 on the season with the 55-50 victory.

Baker women take on NW Oklahoma State in season opener

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Baker women will get their 2009 season rolling Friday when they take on Northwest Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. Returning starters Audrey Bryant and Aubree Gustin will look to provide the team with an early spark this season. Gustin led the team in scoring last season, averaging 12.1 points per game, while Bryant chipped in with 8.9 points per game.

Jenna Brantley (pictured) and Brooke Soske are the only returning nonstarting juniors from last season's squad. Brantley averaged 3.5 points per game while coming off the bench in 2008. Look for Brantley to pursue a more active role running the offense in the 2009 campaign.

Transfers Emily Gibson (Washburn), JaNeil Robinson (Cowley CC), Brittany Hines (Hutchinson CC), Courtney Goodrum (Cowley CC), and Cameron Roland (Kansas City Kansas CC), will give an added scoring punch to all spots in the lineup.

Basketball teams to host alumni games SundayBasketball

The Baker men's and women’s basketball teams will showcase their talent to alums on Sunday. The women will start the action at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 6 p.m.

Come out to the Collins Center and check out the games.

JaNeil Robinson, 5' 8", and Courtney Goodrum, 5' 10", will play for Baker University next season, adding depth to the forward position. Robinson is from Wamego, Kan., and Goodrum is from Wellington, Kan.

Former Hutchinson Junior College Guard Transfers to Baker

Brittany Hines, a former Hutchinson Junior College Guard will join the Wildcats for the 2009-10 season. Hines started 35 of 37 games last season for the Lady Dragons and averaged 8.27 points per game.

Season Preview

The 2009-2010 Baker women’s basketball team returns six players, including two starters from a squad that finished 15-16 overall and 9-11 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Starters back are 5’9 junior AUDREY BRYANT and 6’0 AUBREE GUSTIN. Bryant averaged 8.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while Gustin averaged 12.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season. Juniors JENNA BRANTLEY, EMILY GIBSON (Washburn), JaNEIL ROBINSON (Cowley CC), BROOKE SOSKE, BRITTANY HINES (Hutchinson CC), and COURTNEY GOODRUM (Cowley CC) will give an added scoring punch to all spots in the lineup.

TAYLER STACKS will be the only returning senior and looks to bring some added speed and depth to the guard position. The team will have increased size, with a speedy backcourt that can be utilized throughout the season.
