Second half surge propels Missouri Valley past Baker, 72-71Fanshire

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Baker women’s basketball team dropped another heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon to Missouri Valley College, 72-71.

Baker (1-10, 0-2 HAAC) held a 41-37 lead at halftime, but the Vikings managed to erase that deficit early in the second half when they went on a 11-6 run the first six minutes out of the break.

Trailing 72-71 with 22 seconds remaining in regulation, the Wildcats got the ball to Shelbi Petty, but Sami Jackson of Missouri Valley blocked the potential game-winning shot as time expired.

Baker women drop HAAC opener to Avila University, 65-55Shelbi Petty

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Alisha Fanshier and Shelbi Petty (pictured) each scored in double figures for the Wildcats Thursday evening, but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats dropped their season opener to Avila University, 65-55.

Fanshier finished the contest with 12 points and Petty added 10 points. Rae Lynne Stewart finished as the ‘Cats rebounding leader with seven boards.

Baker (1-9, 0-1 HAAC) finished the contest just 17-for-55 (31 percent) from the field and 7-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Wildcats fall to No. 24 Rogers State, 85-63

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Turnovers were the story Wednesday evening as the Wildcats fell to Rogers State, 85-63.

Baker (1-6) committed 26 turnovers and got outscored 44-24 on points in the paint. The Hillcats also outscored Baker 20-5 on points off turnovers.

Senior Gloria Atanmo led the way offensively with 18 points and 11 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. Atanmo finished the contest 9-for-17 from the floor.

Ottawa outlasts Baker 65-61Gloria Atanmo

OTTAWA, Kan. – Two players scored in double figures for Baker Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as Ottawa hung on to defeat the Wildcats 65-61.

Alisha Fanshier led the way with 16 points while shooting 7-for-16 from the floor. Gloria Atanmo pulled down nine rebounds and 14 points, just one board shy of her first double-double of the season.

Shelbi Petty’s game-winning three lifts Baker past Friends, 56-55

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Trailing by 11 points with three minutes in regulation didn’t mean anything to the young Baker Wildcats women’s basketball team as they grabbed their first win of the season over Friends University Tuesday evening.

With three seconds remaining in regulation, freshman Shelbi Petty took two dribbles and fired a three-pointer to lift Baker to a 56-55 victory over the Falcons.

Holton High School standout Macy Wallisch inks with Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Macy Wallish a 6’3 post player from Holton High School has officially signed her Letter of Intent with the Wildcats for next season.

Wallish was named to the Jackson County all-league team in 2011 after leading her team to the 2011 4-A State Championship with an undefeated 26-0 record. Wallish is also a member of the track and field team and qualified for the state championships in the women’s triple jump. She was also named an alternate on the 4x400 team the past three seasons. The Denison, Kan., native plans on majoring in Biology (Pre-Medicine).

Baker women fall to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 80-65

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s basketball team dropped its home opener on Friday afternoon in the first game of the 2011 Baker Women’s Basketball Wildcat Classic to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 80-65.

2011 Women’s Basketball Wildcat Classic set for Friday and Saturday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s basketball team will host the 2011 Wildcat Classic, November 4-5 in the George F. Collins Center.

Local foe MidAmerica Nazarene will be the only school represented from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the tournament. 24th-ranked Rogers State (Okla.) and Northwestern Oklahoma State will represent the Sooner Athletic Conference.

“We’ve got some good competition coming into our gym this weekend,” said head coach Ben Lister. “We’re looking forward to some good fan support for our home opener.”

Friday’s action will feature MidAmerica Nazarene vs No. 24 Rogers State at 5:30 p.m. Baker will take the floor at 7:30 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The opening game on Saturday features Northwestern Oklahoma State vs MidAmerica Nazarene at 1:00 p.m. The Wildcats will close out the tournament at 3:00 p.m. against 24th-ranked Rogers State.
