Baker football takes down Evangel 24-17Reggie Harris

SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Baker football kept their 2009 postseason hopes alive on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Evangel University 24-17.

Senior running back Richie Bryant got the Wildcats on the scoreboard first when he took a touchdown in just four minutes into the game. Bryant finished the day with 114-yards rushing and 1 touchdown.

Senior Derek Doerfler put the Wildcats ahead 10-0 when he nailed a 32-yard field goal with 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Evangel didn't get on the scoreboard until late in the 2nd quarter when they returned a Danny Ohmes punt 66-yards for a touchdown.

Baker didn't wait long to strike back.  The Wildcats got on the scoreboard one more time before heading into half when Mack Brown threw a touchdown pass to Reggie Harris (pictured) to give Baker the 17-7 advantage.

From that point on Baker didn't look back.  Verlain Betofe added to the score when he caught a pass late in the third-quarter to put Baker ahead 24-7.

The Wildcats will be back in action next weekend when they take on Central Methodist University at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.

Look for the Wildcats to get back into the national spotlight on Monday when the new NAIA Top 25 poll is released at 4:30 p.m.  View the full box score here.
