Baker football takes down Evangel 24-17
SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Baker football kept their 2009 postseason hopes alive on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Evangel University 24-17.
Senior running back Richie Bryant got the Wildcats on the scoreboard first when he took a touchdown in just four minutes into the game. Bryant finished the day with 114-yards rushing and 1 touchdown.
Senior Derek Doerfler put the Wildcats ahead 10-0 when he nailed a 32-yard field goal with 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Evangel didn't get on the scoreboard until late in the 2nd quarter when they returned a Danny Ohmes punt 66-yards for a touchdown.
Baker didn't wait long to strike back. The Wildcats got on the scoreboard one more time before heading into half when Mack Brown threw a touchdown pass to Reggie Harris (pictured) to give Baker the 17-7 advantage.
From that point on Baker didn't look back. Verlain Betofe added to the score when he caught a pass late in the third-quarter to put Baker ahead 24-7.
The Wildcats will be back in action next weekend when they take on Central Methodist University at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
