Alumni Game set for Saturday afternoon
Ron Holden

It's time for Baker football -- sort of.

The Wildcats will take the field on Saturday, May 1, at Liston Stadium for the annual Alumni Game and Senior Awards Ceremony. Kickoff for the contest is 1:00 p.m.

Current and former players will don their full game uniforms and engage in an organized scrimmage, representing the history and tradition that embodies Baker University football. For many of the alumni, it will be the first time they will have been back in uniform with live hits, a full referee crew and fans in the stadium.

After conditioning all winter, watching film and doing drills at spring practice, the team is ready and eager to play a live game.

The same can be said about the alumni, some of whom haven't played a game since they were in college.

"We're coming out there to win the game this year," said former defensive back and current graduate assistant Eric Allen. "I think the alums have a chance to make a game of it."

Coach Mike Grossner said the team would conduct the Alumni Game under normal playing rules with a few exceptions. The first half will feature two-15 minute quarters under normal game conditions. Defenders are not allowed to tackle the alumni QB. The second half will be two 15-minute periods, however the timing for those two periods is yet to be determined.

Tom Hedrick, a 1956 Baker University graduate and member of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame, enters his 22nd season calling Baker football games.

Hedrick will be doing live color and play-by-play via the PA.

Admission to the game is free. All seating for the game will be in the north stands. The gates will open at noon, with the Senior Awards Ceremony taking place at halftime.

Baker baseball will be playing in conjunction with the Alumni Game at 1 p.m., at Sauder Field.
