Wildcats roll in conference opener 55-12 over Peru State

BU vs Peru

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University football welcomed Peru State into the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a commanding 55-12 victory on Saturday evening.

Baker amassed 468 yards of total offense, while limiting Peru State to just 111 yards of total offense.

Baker got on the scoreboard just seven minutes into the first quarter after driving 51 yards on three plays courtesy of a Jake Morse touchdown pass to Jake Green.

Andrew Kimrey added a 24-yard field goal at the end of the quarter to give Baker a 10-0 advantage.

Peru State made some noise on the ensuing kickoff as Garrett Campbell stretched the field on an 88-yard return.

Baker didn’t flinch.

From that point forward the Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 45-6 and took a 34-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

John Babb led the Wildcats on the ground with 129 yards on 11 carries and Jake Morse added 183 yards in the air with three touchdowns.

The Baker defense held the Bobcats to negative 59 yards of rushing on 18 attempts. PSU’s quarterback Tyler Francis finished with 168 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

“Getting off to a 2-0 start is huge for us,” said head coach Mike Grossner. “I think we’re a young, but experienced team. We’ve got our first road test next weekend when we travel to Evangel University.”

Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 in Springfield, Mo.
