Following a Drew O’Cain field goal by the Crusaders, Evangel pressed forward with another touchdown at 9:29 in the second quarter. Baker finally answered with a seven-play 50-yard drive that ended with Reggie Harris grabbing a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Evangel opened the second half with a 40-yard field goal and Baker followed with a 14-yard field goal of its own. Evangel’s two crushing blows came in the third and fourth quarter after Tommy Meyer scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass and Caleb Walker grabbed a 40-yard pass to give Evangel a 34-20 lead with just nine minutes remaining in regulation.
Xavier Lewis closed the gap with 5:54 remaining in regulation when he grabbed a 43-yard TD pass from Jake Morse to give Baker its final total of 27-34.
Quarterback Jake Morse finished the game with 412 yards in the air while completing 30-of-50 passes with two TDs and two interceptions. Kyle Bolton led the Wildcats running attack with 29 yards.
The Wildcats (2-1, 1-1 HAAC) will return to action this weekend when they face Central Methodist (1-1, 1-1 HAAC) at 6 p.m. from Liston Stadium.
