No. 14 WIldcats Earn Road win at CSC

CANTON, Mo. – The No. 14 ranked Baker University football team picked up its third Heart of America Athletic Conference road victory of 2012 on Saturday in a 29-9 win at Culver-Stockton College.

The Wildcats picked off CSC four times, behind three interceptions from junior corner back Johua Fairley. Baker intercepted starting quarterback Curtis Widener three times and backup Jake Hoffman once. Adrian Pearson picked off the other pass for the Wildcats.

Baker is now 6-2 on the year and 5-2 in the HAAC, while Culver-Stockton falls to 1-8 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

The Wildcats will now prepare for a showdown at No. 21 Benedictine next Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. Benedictine only defeated Avila, 45-42, on Saturday at AU.

In Saturday’s game, CSC scored first with 9:54 to play in the first quarter, as kicker Michael Camargo nailed a 17-yard field goal. That gave CSC its only lead of the day.

Baker took the lead back with 1:02 remaining in the first quarter, when Jake Morse connected with Jake Green for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Jermaine Broomfield then ran past CSC on a 18-yard reception from Morse into the end zone to put Baker up 13-3. Steven Stewart had the extra-point blocked.

Stewart then made up for it with a 27-yard field goal before halftime to put Baker up 16-3 at halftime.

Jake Morse then scored with his legs on the next two touchdowns for Baker, as he ran in from one yard out with 4:22 left in the third quarter to put the Wildcats up 22-3, then scored again three minutes later on a two-yard run to put Baker up, 29-3.

Widener threw his only touchdown of the night to Nick Hill on a 26-yard reception with :30 second left in the game to bring the final score to 29-9.

The Baker defense not only picked off CSC four times but also held them to just 52 yards rushing and gave up the fewest points of the season.

Broomfield led the offense with 150 yards rushing and Dillon Baxter added 49 yards on 4.1 yards per carry.

Jake Morse was 9-of-23 passing for 128 yards and two scores and Green led the way with 48 yards receiving. Emmerson Clarke had a team high eight tackles and Andre Jolly had two more sacks to bring his season total to 11.
