Baker Set for NAIA FCS Game at USF

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 11 ranked Baker University football team will travel to No. 6 St. Francis University this Saturday, Nov. 17 to take on the Cougars in the 2012 NAIA Football Championship Series First Round.

The game will kick off at 11 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) and 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at USF's Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.

Fans can listen to all the action and Baker's voice of the Wildcats Tom Hedrick at www.bakerwildcats.com on Saturday for free. Color analyst Brad Barnes will help with the broadcast.

The USF athletic department will also provide a live internet video broadcast of the game, but will charge a price of $7.95. Live stats will also be linked up at www.bakerwildcats.com. All three of those links can be found at the multimedia tab at the top of the Baker athletics site, then choose Live Radio or Live Stats and enjoy the game.

Both the Wildcats and Cougars enter the game with a record of 8-2. USF finished the MSFA-MidEast League with a record of 4-1, while Baker finished the Heart of America Athletic Conference, 7-2 and in third-place.

St. Francis went 2-2 against ranked opponents this season and faced two teams that were ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
On Sept. 29, the Cougars defeated then No. 1 ranked and defending NAIA National Champion St. Xavier University, 25-13, on the road,

They followed that up on Oct. 13 by taking on the new No. 1 team in the nation Marian University. Marian and USF battled to the end in Indianapolis, Ind., but the Cougars lost to the Knights, 45-38.

That loss proved to be the final loss of the season for USF, as they won their final four games of the season.

Saturday will mark the first time in program history that either team has faced each other. The USF football program is only in its 15th year of exsistence with all 15 years under the helm of legendary coach Kevin Donley.

Donley has led the Cougars to nine conference titles and three NAIA National Runner-Up finishes and has an overall record of 148-33 in his time at St. Francis.

Saturday marks the 12th all-time appearance for Baker in the NAIA Playoffs and first since 2008.

The Wildcats head coach Mike Grossner has led Baker to its last two Playoff appearance and sports a 54-41 record in his nine years at Baker which is puts him fifth all-time in wins in the tradition rich history of the program.

The Wildcats and Cougars match up well offensively this season, USF has scored 358 points, while Baker has scored 319, averaging 31.9 per game. Baker averages six yards per play on offense, while USF averages 5.6

Baker has thrown 20 touchdown passes in 2012 and the Cougars have thrown 16. The Wildcats have also out gained the Cougars on the ground running for 1,902 yards, while USF has run for 1,829.

Defensively, Baker has given up 20.1 points per game and held its opponents to under 20 points or under seven times. The USF defense is allowing just 16.1 points per game and only 126.9 yards rushing per game and 162.4 through the air.
